About me-
Laura Knight Counsellor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist,  Mindfulness Teacher & Counselling Supervisor

Hello, I’m Laura — a counsellor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, mindfulness teacher and Counselling Supervisor,  based in Parkstone, Poole,Dorset

Also offering online counselling, mindfulness and supervision for you wherever you are based

in the UK and beyond

I support people who feel their lives are dominated by anxiety, worry, or a constant sense of

being on edge. By combining counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness.

Helping you move from overwhelm and self‑doubt toward feeling calmer, more capable, and

more able to cope with everyday life.

My interest in this work comes from my own personal experience.

From being  bullied at school from the age of 11 to 16, anxiety stayed with me well into my 30s. I worried about everything and often coped by avoiding the things that felt too hard.

Over time, I have found ways to manage my anxiety and began to enjoy life again.

In my 40s, I decided to train as a counsellor so I could help others find their own path toward feeling safer, steadier, and more in control.

Later, I trained as a mindfulness teacher after discovering how transformative mindfulness was for me — and how helpful it became for my clients.

It has been such a privilege to have supported hundreds of people in finding relief from anxiety and beginning to live more fulfilling, grounded lives.

If any part of my story resonates with you, you’re welcome to get in touch, to see if I can help you.

HOW I WORK AS A COUNSELLOR

My approach is gentle and collaborative, and you take me at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

We work together to understand what’s happening for you and explore practical ways to ease anxiety and build confidence, without me telling you what to do, but you discovering for yourself, what feels right for you.

Sessions include a blend of counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Tools  and simple mindfulness practices, some or all of these, I work with whatever feels comfortable for you and listen to you as to what feels right for you.

Helping you to start noticing patterns, calm your nervous system, and develop skills you can use in everyday life.

My role is to offer you confidentiality, warmth, empathy and sometimes  gentle challenge, when appropriate, helping you unravel what you may not be able to unravel on your own.

A space where you can talk openly, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing

Q & A

1. What experience do you have in supporting anxiety?

I specialise in working with anxiety, overwhelm and emotional fatigue, supporting people who feel stuck, exhausted or unsure how to move forward.  I combine counselling, CBT and mindfulness, which means we can explore and understand your anxiety and bring nervous‑system awareness, with  practical tools that help you feel more capable and grounded in everyday life.

2. What is your therapeutic style?

Clients often describe my style as calm, steady and gently challenging when needed. I offer a space where you can slow down and make sense of your experience. I don’t rush or push — we work at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

3. What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is a gentle conversation where we explore what’s been happening for you, what you’re hoping for, answer any of your questions  and  explore how we might work together. There is no pressure to share, what you are not ready to share, it’s simply a chance to get to know each other and see whether you feel comfortable to work with me.

4. Do you work with people who feel nervous about starting therapy?

Absolutely. Many people feel anxious about taking that first step, especially if they’ve been coping alone for a long time. I hope that I will help you to feel at ease and safe, so you can explore what you need to without feeling  you are being judged. Everything you share is confidential and my experience of working with anxiety, and my own expereince of anxiety, means helping you to feel safe an supported is an important part of the work we do.

5. Do you work online as well as in person?

Yes. I offer sessions in Poole, from my calm and comfortable therapy room,  as well as online across the UK, via Zoom. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of online work, and it can feel just as connected and supportive as meeting in person.

6. What qualifications or training do you have?

I am a qualified counsellor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist  and mindfulness coach, with specialist training in anxiety, stress and emotional regulation.  I spent some years volunteering with an agency who worked with survivors of sexual abuse and am trained to work with trauma, past and present.

I am also a  supervisor for trainee and qualified counsellors.
