CURRENTLY OFFERING TELEPHONE AND ONLINE COUNSELLING
Laura Knight Dip.Couns MBACP
Is anxiety something you struggle with everyday?
I am here to help you find ways to manage your anxiety and start to live a calmer life.
Do you constantly worry?
Do you find it difficult to stop your thoughts going around in your head?
Do you always think the worst will happen?
Do you try to avoid social events?
Do physical symptoms such as chest pains, stomach cramps, racing heart trouble you?
These are all signs of anxiety and can be exhausting and scary
I help you find ways to manage these so you can live a calmer life.
"Counselling with Laura helped me move from a place of negative anxiety and depression that would stop me from putting myself in social situations, to a place where I feel confident and can manage my anxiety"
Is it possible to stop my anxiety?
You actually don't want to get rid of your anxiety completely.
Anxiety is a necessary emotion to protect you from danger and threat.
For example if you were to walk into the road and a car was coming your anxiety response could save your life
by helping you jump out of the way of the car.
However your anxiety response can become too overprotective and get permanently switched on.
This is probably what's happened for you, and now you need to find ways to get it back to a normal level.
Relieving your anxiety is my specialty and I help you find ways to manage your anxiety better.
Reduce how much you worry
Understand your negative thoughts and how to prevent them happening
Think differently about the future
Start to look forward to social events
Slow down your racing heart, reduce your chest pains and other physical symptoms,
and understand why these happen
"I am amazed at how far counselling sessions with Laura helped me progress emotionally and mentally.
I have felt I have been able to discuss anything in a safe environment"
Why have I got Anxiety?
Anxiety can be caused by recent or past events
understanding why these are causing you anxiety helps you to understand how changes in your life
can reduce these feelings and lead to a happier more content life for you.
Many events in life can cause you stress and stress can lead to anxiety.
Difficult moments in your life such as relationship break ups, divorce, births and deaths
can all lead to anxiety.
The environment you grew up in and genetics can also contribute to an anxious life.
"Thank you Laura for helping me manage my anxiety. I am now able to put myself into situations that I couldn't before without thinking I am going to have a panic attack"
How can counselling help?
There is no 'one size fits all' with counselling, and there are many different anxiety types
I will work with you in a way that is comfortable for you and which is most appropriate for the type of anxiety you have.
For example research has shown Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to be effective in the treatment of anxiety and panic attacks, by working with your negative patterns and distortions of the world that
contribute to your anxiety
Talk based therapy can help you work through a particularly difficult time in your life. such as divorce, grief, and other difficult life events that lead to stress and anxious feelings.
If you feel your anxiety has always been part of your life we may explore some of your beliefs that have lead to causing your anxiety
I make sure we work together in a way that is most effective for you and help you find the results you are looking for.
Of course no guarantees can be made but counselling is about the hard work you do in and out of sessions alongside the relationship we have and the therapy skills I have.
"I was apprehensive to start as I had never had counselling and thought it might be scary and formal......Fortunately it was nothing like that. Laura was engaging and so easy to talk to....I never felt judged or misunderstood...."
As well as working with Anxiety and panic I have had specialist training in working with those who
experienced childhood abuse.
I can work with all kinds of life problems so please do get in touch to talk about what is troubling you
I would like to thank you Laura for the help and support you provided me over the last 12 weeks.
I really was quite afraid and anxious about it but you really helped me get through quite a difficult and unexpected time in my life and I very much appreciate you being able to provide a safe space for me to explore
