When people hear the word counselling, they often imagine something quite serious, lying on a couch, being analysed, or only going when life has fallen apart.
Many of us grow up believing counselling is only for people in crisis, that you have to be “broken” to go, or that you’ll be judged or told what to do.
In reality, counselling is much simpler and more human than that.
Counselling is a conversation.
A space to slow down, to talk openly, and to be listened to without judgement.
You don’t have to be at breaking point.
And you will set the pace of the work.
People come to counselling for many everyday reasons:-
feeling stuck
struggling with confidence
relationship difficulties
feeling overwhelmed
or simply wanting to understand themselves better.
Counselling is not about fixing what is “wrong” with you.
It is about understanding who you are, your experiences, your coping strategies, and the patterns you’ve developed throughout your lifetime.
When we understand ourselves better, we can:
Be kinder to ourselves
Communicate more clearly
Set healthier boundaries
Feel more in control of our emotions
Make different choices
Counselling is for anyone who wants to understand themselves better and live a more contented and comfortable life.
You don’t need a crisis to come to counselling.
If you’ve been wondering whether counselling might be right for you, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
Sometimes the first step is simply sending that text, e-mail or making a phone call
